Mumbai: Over 11,000 employees from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) would be deployed for the election duty for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019. The corporation worries that this would have an impact on the routine work of the BMC.
With the implementation of the model code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, over 11,000 employees are expected to attend the election duty for almost two months. This may also include all the four Additional Municipal Commissioners (AMC).
The officials in the corporation are worried about the routine work of the BMC in these two months. “11,000 is a big number. This is surely going to affect the BMC. But we are helpless and we would have to deploy 11,000 employees for the election duty,” said a civic official.
“The deployment would be from all departments and all level officers would have to be involved in the election process. However, the corporation is not sure about deploying all four AMCs,”, said the civic official. Maharashtra will vote to elect 48 Members of the Parliament to the 17th Lok Sabha in the first, second, third and fourth phases of the Lok Sabha elections dated April 11, 18, 23 and 29.
